Mr. Bill Gates and Chinese students
|
On
Jul. 1, 2004, in the launching ceremony of 100
IT Classrooms Program of PiL Initiative by MOE-Microsoft
(China) , Board Chairman of Microsoft, Mr. Bill
Gates, had a dialogue with some middle school
students from the first 5 IT classrooms established
in various places of china .
Dialogue with students:
Q £º
Everyone has his or her own dream.
Now that you are very successful, so what is your
dream at this moment?
Bill Gates:
When I was a boy, I chose computer
as my dream and hoped to use it as a tool. My
real dream isn't to make a lot of money or to
establish a big company. To make computer a perfect
tool is my dream, a dream in my lifetime. Till
today, I have merely achieved half of the goal
and I hope to realize the dream completely.
Q £º
As far as you are concerned, what
kind of person is really successful?
Bill Gates:
For me, there are various criteria
to measure success. I think, first of all, you
may see whether you are able to do something to
improve the life of the persons you respect, such
as your family and friends. Maybe this is a better
way which can be easily tried.
The more traditional mark of success
is whether you have created something bran-new
or has brought changes to the world.
Q £º
Mr. Gates, many people who have
completed their college education have not made
achievements like you. However, you did not finish
college but you have made such brilliant achievements.
So I'd like to ask your opinion about higher education.
Bill Gates:
This is a good question. It is important
to finish college. I started my business because
I had to seize the opportunity at that time otherwise
it would be too late. But now I am still suspending
my study, perhaps two years later I will continue
my study at Harvard. |
